Over the recent years, few books have been published covering all the subjects needed to understand the very fundamental concepts of cell planning. Most books which deal with this topic are destined to very specific audiences, and the vast majority introduce the subject at a very basic, or technical, level, or are destined to an academic audience. Cellular Network Planning begins with an introduction to the subject, covering conventional and contemporary wireless systems. Spectral allocation and the frequency plan are discussed, along with the essential characteristics of wireless systems. The design of mobile cellular systems includes cell planning, traffic and channel problems. The book presents a review of existing models, considering both green field dimensioning and network expansion strategies, and discusses multi-objective optimization and base station deployment based on artificial immune systems. It also discusses a cost-effective base station deployment approach based on artificial immune systems, and introduces the modified MO-AIS algorithm. Technical topics discussed in the book include: Mobile Cellular Network BasicsEvolution of Mobile Cellular SystemThe Mobile Communications ChannelPropagation ModelsCell PlanningGreen Field DimensioningNetwork ExpansionCost-effective Planning Strategies

Routing and Quality-of-Service in Broadband LEO Satellite Networks describes mechanisms for supporting Quality-of-Service (QoS) strategies that consider properties of low earth orbit satellite networks and their effects on link handover. A graph model representing the dynamic topology of a satellite constellation is introduced based on a new parameter, lifetime. Novel routing and resource reservation algorithms as well as connection admission control strategies are proposed to minimize the handover blocking probability while maintaining QoS requirements. The author also discusses the roles of satellites in an all-IP mobile network architecture and the problems of mobility, QoS provisioning, and routing. This work will be of particular interest to researchers and professionals working on mobility networking in next generation networks.

Nowadays, networks and telecommunications are two of the most active ?elds. Research and development in these areas have been going on for some time, reaching the stage of products. The objectives of HSNMC 2004 (International Conference on High Speed Networks and Multimedia Communications) were to promote research and development activities and to encourage communication between academic researchers and engineers throughout the world in the areas related to high-speed networks and multimedia communications. The seventh edition of HSNMC was held in Toulouse, France, on June 30– July2,2004. Therewere266submissionstoHSNMCthisyearfrom34countries, which were evaluated by program committee members assisted by external - viewers. Each paper was reviewed by several reviewers. One hundred and one papers were selected to be included in these proceedings. The quality of s- missions was high, and the committee had to decline some papers worthy for publication. The papers selected in this book illustrate the state of the art, current d- cussions, and development trends in the areas of networks, telecommunication and multimedia applications. The contributions published in this book und- line the international importance of the related ?eld of research. They cover a variety of topics, such as QoS in Di?Serv networks, QoS analysis and m- surement, performance modelling, TCP modelling and analysis, MPLS for QoS provision, scheduling and resource allocation, routing, multicast, security and privacy issues, peer-to-peer applications, video applications, software and m- dleware for networks, mobile networks, mobility, satellite, mobile IP, wireless networks, WLAN, ad hoc networks, 3G/UMTS, IEEE 802.

Now in its fifth edition, the bestselling book on UMTS has been updated to cover 3GPP WCDMA and High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) from Release 99 to Release 9. Written by leading experts in the field, the book explains HSPA performance based on simulations and field experience, and illustrates the benefits of HSPA evolution (HSPA+) both from the operators and from the end user?s perspective. It continues to provide updated descriptions of the 3GPP standard including the physical layer, radio protocols on layers 1-3 and a system architecture description. The challenges and solutions regarding terminal RF design are also discussed, including the benefits of HSPA+ power saving features. There is also the addition of a new chapter on femto cells as part of the updates to this fifth edition. Key updates include: HSPA evolution (HSPA+); Multicarrier HSPA solutions; HSPA femto cells (home base stations); TD-SCDMA system description; Terminal power consumption optimization. Updated description of LTE
